The American quartet, Klassika, who is currently touring and performing in South Africa, had their audience hanging on their lips during a brilliant performance on Friday evening, 5 July 2019, in Beaufort West’s Roadhouse Conference Centre.

Merging the starkly different genres of pop and opera, Klassika has created a fresh, unique sound for its listeners. Known as Popera, or Classical Crossover, the genre features the best traits of each style, creating a beautiful partnership that’s music to the ears – literally!

With their special style, Klassika brings a seasoned flair to the popular songs of today, adding a whole new level of depth with their refinement. Their song choices also cross border lines, as they pick popular songs in a variety of languages, including English, Italian, Spanish and French.

The members of the quartet are tenor Chris Romeo, South Africa born soprano Jolanda Nel, baritone Derek Roura and soprano Stephanie McCranie.

Apart from their private event in Beaufort West, Klassika had also performed in the Centurion Theatre in Pretoria on 29 June, and at the Free State Art Festival in Bloemfontein on 3 and 4 July.
Klassika’s performance was attended by about 120 guests who thoroughly enjoyed the evening and showed their appreciation by spontaneously singing along, showing that Beaufort Westers had

not yet forgotten how to have fun.
The evening was organized by a number of local ladies and the proceeds are earmarked for the KOMwerk Project and the local hospital.
